To view or Saturday Walk's Programme, please select Saturday from above or use the Saturday Summer Walks 2008 Link below.
Saturday Walks We organise our walks into three groupings. Saturday "A" walks are generally around 12 miles, and are more strenuous than the "B" and "C" walks. Saturday "B" walks are around 10 miles, and are a little easier than the "A" walks. Saturday "C" walks are the easiest of all; they are generally 6 to 7 miles and we walk at a slower pace. You should always come properly equipped: stout boots or walking shoes, thick socks, loose trousers, a waterproof if it looks like rain (we never let that deter us) and warm clothing and spares in your rucksack in winter. The weather can be very different on the hills compared to the centre of town. Of course, on one of those rare summer days with a cloudless sky and a blazing sun, shorts and an open-necked shirt might serve. You will find that the merits of different walking gear are endlessly debated on walks. Normally (always on ‘A’ walks) we picnic, so bring a packed lunch and energizing sweets to keep you going. Always bring plenty of fluids: coffee or tea in winter and water in summer. |
