Social/Other Activities

1.        Coach Trips. Periodically, during the spring and summer, we put on coach trips (currently 6 on Saturdays and 1 on Wednesdays) at a cost of £10 per person, to points further a field, such as the Lake District, the Peaks, or North Yorkshire. On arrival, 2 or 3 walks are on offer (A, B or C on Saturdays, and 1or 2 on Wednesdays).

2.        Weekends and ‘Mini-Weeks’. More extended ‘holidays’ are offered over a weekend or from Monday to Friday (‘Mini-Weeks’), to similar destinations, where you can get in several days of walking – or sight-seeing if that is your preference. We stay in relatively cheap but comfortable accommodation that is friendly to walkers (the cost of the current ‘mini-week’ to North Wales is £165 per head all-in).

The ‘A’ party also goes on an informal weekend every year to a hostel in the Lake District. All members are invited, but beware, the walks are challenging.

3.        Long Distance Walks. Some members of the ‘A’ party have also, informally, been organising long-distance walks in the summer lasting up to 2 weeks. They’ve done the Coast-to-Coast and the West Highland Way and, next year, plan to take on the Pembroke coastal path. Can you do the distance?

4.        Socials. There is an annual club dinner (currently costing under £20 a head) usually in February, at a local restaurant where all members can mix. And a pre-Christmas dance, which also offers other diversions. But you will find every walk you go on is a social event – some people talk so much they don’t know where they’ve been!

5.        Keeping in Touch. The club publishes a biannual magazine, CHAT, which covers its activities and walking matters. The editor, Danny Mangon, is happy to receive contributions from anyone.

6.        Webpage. We also plan to use this web site to disseminate up-to-date information (including, for example, minutes of the general committee and the agenda for the AGM) for the use of members. We may also open up a message board for general discussion on club related matters.

7.        Buxton Weekend 30th March to 1st April 2007. Please click here for details of what happened!
